The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will address Nigerians at 7pm today (Monday).
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, made this known in a statement.
Following the increasing cases of the virus, the retired general had ordered a shutdown of Lagos, Abuja and Ogun State since March 31.
On Saturday, Buhari urged Nigerians to stay at home and to wash their hands to help save lives, but gave no indication of whether the official confinement period would be extended past Monday.
The statement issued on Monday read, “President Muhammadu Buhari will broadcast to the nation Monday, April 13, 2020 at 7pm.
“Television, radio and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria respectively for the broadcast.”
As of 09:10 pm on April 12, 323 confirmed cases of #COVID-19 have been reported in Nigeria.
